Something I picked up from reading the book "In the Garden of Beasts" by Erik Larson. In it, Larson tells of a morning in 1933 when two German diplomats, one from the Foreign Office and the other from the Nazi party, went out for a walk to discuss what could be done about Hitler. The Nazis had been gaining momentum for some time and were now openly running for power. The two men walked through the streets of Berlin and discussed how things could be changed.

Then they reached a cafe where a major brawl broke out. At first the two men thought it was a fight between drunken soldiers, but soon realized that there were Nazis involved as well. The two men decided to leave as quickly as possible, leaving their coffee unfinished and heading back to their offices.
